Can I Hex Edit with VBA's Memory Viewer?

Looking at the various hex editors I felt kind of lost. I want to basically copy some of koolboyman's missingnos to a onto the missingnos of a normal pokemon red rom.

There's a video showing how to change a wild pokemon's appearance into Johto pokemon by copying numbers from pokemon gold and putting it into pokemon blue with the memory viewer...

Well, you can, but that would only be editing RAM, which is temporary. Once you close VBA, all of your work will be gone with no way to save it.
Also, if you want to "copy" Koolboyman's missingnos onto your ROM, you'll need to do the exact same thing he did with Brown. Replacing pictures, cries, stats, etc.  Hex Editors are easy to use, even for a complete dolt like myself. If you need help, or suggestions on a basic one (Windhex, perhaps?) then just ask.

I don't calculate stat values, I don't breed my way to perfection, and I don't care about natures. I catch my Pokemon the way they are, and treat them like individuals instead of brainless drones.

Yeah, with all the hex editors to choose from I wasn't sure what to pick.
Are you really good at using Windhex and do you think it can help make new pokemon out of the missingno?  (or copy them from let's say brown and then use them for missingno)?

Is there such thing as the "best" hex editor for pokemon red/blue or are they all just about the same?

Me video editing out of boredom

rocky, using Windhex doesn't mean you can hack the missingno easily. At last, it's just depend on your experience on hacking the game. If you still doubt about it, try downloading several hex editor and see the difference from there.

Re: Can I Hex Edit with VBA's Memory Viewer?

Yeah Cloud's about summed up most of what I was going to say. But Windhex is the simplest hex editor to use, in my opinion.
Also, the missingno hacking is VERY complicated hex. There may be ASM involved. So honestly, I'd try when you're a more experienced hacker, or ask Koolboyman himself.
There's no way to "copy/paste" the edited Missingnos into your ROM. This isn't a GBA hack, where you could easily do that through tools.

GBA and tools in the same sentence should be a criminal offence.

LOL, actually, that had me wishing there was a hacking tool that would edit missingno for me.

I tried reaching Koolboyman with his twitter and forum, but he hasn't responded.

Haha, Red, I was just saying that GBA is almost ALWAYS done by tools. Try PMing him on Pokecommunity.

You can basically cheat by using Memory Viewer.
Besides, you can modify your save files that way.
