NO SCREENSHOTS AVAIABLE
Since this Section is General Discussion, I posted it here 4... discussions about it, of course.
I know most of you won't believe me, but I saw it... on a cartridge!
I knew very few of pokemon hacking in that time (I started hacking GTA in latest 2007, my first hacks ever.)
I remembered a very strange hack I saw one day in the early 2009 (about January\February): a unnamed hack of Pokemon Gold with VERY strange features...
1 day a guy I knew 5 months before showed me a hack made by his cousin, a hack-maniac...
It was a hack of Pokemon Gold, the titlescreen was normal exept the clouds that were more defined,
but... the rest was very strange.
I asked: "How... he... did that!!?????"
I remember in that hack Pokemon were usually infected by a plague that made weird spots in their body... I saw a Charizard with Teal spots near mouth & eyes, strange spots...
All the Pokemon sprites were FR\LG style, and there were not 251 Pokemon but about 330, 3rd generation was still uncomplete, the hack was work-in-progress but already made in a black cartridge with no label but spots of (glue?).
All the Pokemon "infected" lost gradually their HPs (like being poisoned) until they died forever...
But certain attacks (also in this case there were some GenIII attacks like Dive) could give that plague to other Pokemon and solve their illness (not forever but for a certain amount of time).
Not all the Pokemon could have been hit by the plague: the Legendary Pokemon.
Also, another fact that made me sick, the Pokemon could attack (and also poison!) the Player, and the player could steal the Pokemon from other trainers, also the trainers sometimes tried to steal your Pokemon (but in this case only rocket ones could do that).
The player could attack the opposite trainers as well until they died (but for a bug their overworld didn't disappear) but the sickest part was when I saw the Player "steal" with a mega ball a Kimono Girl!
Yes!! Terrible! And he later watched the PC and saw the Kimono Girl (Blue) inside the Pokemon PC store system!
Another thing I found strange were the running shoes (but I found that in Prism so I'm not so surprised) and a
Jump function that could made the player jump over rocks & some low houses with an animation identical to
the one used for the jumps over ledges pressing the select button (maybe with an item assigned? I didn't saw the backpack items).
At last the player could also fly from Jotho to Kanto with fly, unlike the original Gold.
That game shocked me.
I left this forum.
Do you still have the rom? Or at least the exact name of the game? Or the file?
I put this discussion here since I don't have the hack but about discuss the changes he made and how to recreate it.
Basically, his hack was a kind of Nuzlocke Challenge but a bit easier.
He changed the maps of Gold, its pallettes & some tilesets (the PC & Mart roofs were similar to R\S ones but of the same color depending on the town), I dunno about events, because the game was already started.
The Rom was on a cartridge, it was a prototype version, but that guy (named Luka) said his cousin used some devices to put inside the cartridge the rom.
He said his cousin hacked the game on PC and then put it inside the cartridge, I was surprised, because
in 2009 I didn't know anything about rom editing, only a few things.
I don't have the file, I knew only about these 2 places:
1- Luka's Cousin computer
2- Luka's cartridge given by his cousin
I don't think that game was ever released, since this was only a hobby for that guy that, I remember, his main activity was piracy.
There wasn't an official name for this hack, but was something like "Pokemon Plague - Gold Version"
and it was amazing, exept for the kidnapping of trainers that didn't know a single move, in battle they used struggle, I thought his cousin was a maniac cuz his box was full of girl trainers...
I left this forum.
The best thing you could do is asking to upload the ROM file or give you a cartridge.
Hacks Gameboy 8-bit music in Pokémon Gen I & II, composes 8-bit music in FamiTracker
Sounds Intresting. More than 251 Pokemon. It must be a lot of expanded. Also I think that need's a lot of ASM work. But How he expand Pokedex from 251 to 330. This is strange.
