Is there a tutorial on how to repoint data?

I'm extremely frustrated here because I haven't the faintest clue as to how to read a pointer table or repoint data in a ROM, but I can't find anything here that explains how to do that. Everything I've found that mentions repointing at all has assumed that the reader knows the first thing about repointing data, which I don't.

A simple, practical explanation with an example or two is all that I'm looking for here.

I also don't get the pointer stuff. That's why I can't insert music without replace original.

That video's an hour long, so if I don't find my answer in it, maybe it's just over my head. I hope not o_O

Shouldn't be that difficult to understand :)
Also, I'd highly recommend checking the following vids as well. But... you probably "get involved" anyhow, hahha!
