Pokémon Card Game Final Mix

Name still a WIP until I think of something sexier...

Hello! Welcome, my fellow 8 bit lovers and such. The last couple of days I have been working on a hack of Silver version. Theidea smacked me in the head one day when I saw my old Pokémon TCG cartridge for the Gameboy the other day. Apparently the fanbase for the Card Game series was so low because it was a card game itself. The storyline was great, it had fantastic graphics for its time, and it even had good music! But because it was a card game, no no...

I personally was a fan of the card game but I did prefer real Pokémon more, which is why i bring you...

Hack Name:
Pokémon Card Game Final Mix

Hack of: Silver (U)

Blurb (from boxart):
"The greatest Pokémon Trading Card Game players of all time – the Grand Masters – are looking for one player worthy of inheriting the four rare, Legendary Pokémon Cards! Build new decks with the Auto Deck Machine, hone your skills on the Challenge Machine, and test your ability in the Challenge Hall. Expand your card collection, duel your way through 8 Club Masters and earn the right to challenge the Grand Masters in the Pokémon Dome! Shadowy figures, wise instructors and powerful opponents await in the ultimate trading card game adventure!"

Story:
The player begins his or her adventure at Mason Laboratory, where Dr. Mason gives him or her the choice of taking along one of three different Pokémon Trading Card Game decks: Charmander & Friends, Squirtle & Friends or Bulbasaur & Friends. The player, known by default as Mark, has an ambition of becoming the world's greatest Pokémon Trading Card Game player; however, Mark's rival, Ronald, has a similar goal. Ronald will duel the player at certain points in the game to test the player's cards; being defeated is an indication for the player to improve his or her deck. Victory, however, results in receiving a Promotional Card.

NOTICE: Some things are going to be different. There are no "Cards". This game has been remade to have routes and wild Pokémon.

Features:
-All original 151 Pokémon, and any evolutions from later generations.
-Play as Mark, a young man who wants to come in Possession of the all the legendary pokemon, and become the Champion of the Pokémon Dome.
-Rival Ronald, who will challenge you many times and give you Pokémon if you beat him.
-Probably some ASM if I do end up adding a minigame or two
-Nostalgia
-New tiles and (hopefully) some music from the original TCG.
-Custom scripts

Conclusion:

Well that's it for now. Will be posting updates. Once this game is finished I will be continuing Kodai no Platinum, I just wanted to get some practice as Miksy91 advised.

Re: Pokémon Card Game Final Mix

This sounds awesome! I was always a fan of the TCG, and it has always disappointed me that there was such a small fan base (and a grand total of 0 hacks that I've been able to find of it). I've often included references to it in hacks, for example in the Christmas Hack a card table is visible, although you cannot duel, an old version of Sterling Silver has Imakuni? as an NPC in the GTS, and I think the currently available version of SaR has some references to people playing the TCG and has card tables in a place or two. In other words: I'm looking forward to seeing progress on this. This is a cool idea.

Also, you posting this and being interested has inspired me to start looking into the format of how the decks are stored (well, after I finish testing and release the christmas hack). Maybe if we figure them out, we can become the first community to have a hack of TCG.

Re: Pokémon Card Game Final Mix

I actually have seen a hack on another forum as of this year. They were revamping it and adding cards from gen 2 form my understanding, but it's not like they had a release or have had any updates, just lots of spriting. That sounds like it would be alot of fun, I could probably help with that (spriting wise).

Anyway, on topic. The only problem I'm seeing here in the future is going to be the large number of tiles in TCG I'm going to have to choose from to fit in the ROM. I can extend the ROM to 4mb and all but it's not like I know how to use it...

I can see I sparked a bit of fire in there, Mateo. I'm glad someone likes this :D
I'm still deciding whether or not I should add some moves in there from the TCG (Like how you added Thunderjolt into SaR) but I have no idea how to do this and would probably be biting off a bit more than I could chew at this point. I really am going to try my best as an amateur hacker and hopefully finish this!

Re: Pokémon Card Game Final Mix

I like the idea of this hack as well, the region looks interesting as well.
This is going to be an awesome hack when you learn how to properly redo the region and create scripts from scratch (not sure if you already do this or not).

P.S
As Mateo pointed out, it would be a good idea to research TCG rom as well so we could make hacks of it too.

Ah yes, The world/Region map. I got it mapped out, but I'm afraid the fly data will be scrambled till I get a bit better. I've been studying the scripts so I think I can do it if I give it a try.

Yes that and the wild data will be scrambled if you change things around on the map. You'd have to put the fly data in a order you want it through the towns you go through in order. My help thread might assist you if you look for it.

Re: Pokémon Card Game Final Mix

OMG! That's... that's... (can I say it, please? If it's what I think it is.)

Redux is 'on hold'. I have however found the files, but it's still (pretty much) dead at the moment.
I wonder if that's actually a good thing...

Re: Pokémon Card Game Final Mix

I'm assuming that they won't be found wild in the final version, right? It'll be some type of event?

Also, posting from Nintendo 3DS! Merry Christmas!

Re: Pokémon Card Game Final Mix

@Stag019 No they are not found in the wild xD I plan on implementing some kind of egg ASM in which you need certain conditions. I replaced Dunsparce btw to add that. Stntler was replaced for the Zapmolcuno sillhoette (Doesn't mean Zapmolcuno is in the game, it just depicts the 3 birds and technically (not shown) Dragonite).

@sky_queen3 thanks! Zapmolcuno unfortunately won't be in thegame, but it does depict the 3 birds in its own. And yes Sp. Eared Pichu is kickass

Merry Christmas everyone!
