Hi guys, I've been experimenting with hacking GSC for quite a while, and recently I've been learning how to edit the music.
One thing that's always stood out to me about battle music in gen 1/2 is the fact that none of them use the noise channel at all. I thought there might be a technical reason, so to test it I repointed the standard battle theme to Azalea's theme. Surprisingly, it sounded fine, even with the battle SFX mixed in (although I only tested a few moves).
It makes me wonder, why did they choose to do this? Is it because sound effects tend to cut into the notes, or is it just an aesthetic choice by the developers?
