(GEN-1) Pokemon Red - Music Edit

Hello, i was wondering if someone could help me understand how to edit the music used in pokemon red (1st generation) ?

Like what software/program to use...and what format the music would have to be in.

Everything you need to know is here.
It's still anything but easy, so get ready to work hard.
There's also a tool that imports .ftm files, but it doesn't work quite well and its creator seems to have disappeared. Here it is.
