Re: what is pokemon hacking?

Is this a question of what is hacking to different people, or is this a "how do you hack?" thread?

Re: what is pokemon hacking?

I think it's either "how do you hack" or "lalalalalalalalala..." thread ;)

Take the daemons from my mind and throw them upon the walls of tragedy
let the blood burn the words created by the forgiven ones
because as i lay in these bonds i know that i will never see...
for they have blinded me.

Re: what is pokemon hacking?

Well since nobody ever replied to this hack after we got an idea what the thread was about, I'll jump in.

To me, Pokemon hacking is a way to express your creative side, and bring about things you would like to see (or have always hoped would be) in the series of games. That's one of the main reasons that no matter how sidetracked I get, or what other things keep me distracted from SaR, it won't actually die. That hack is a way of living the old days again, but this time the stories you made up to tell people in class, or that you read on poorly made Maxpages sites actually work. In fact, the next beta release will most likely have a similar site associated with it, for the sake of nostalgia. Poor grammar, gameshark codes, and outlandish stories (complete with pokegods and mew) but they actually work this time around.

You also end up with hacks like the Christmas Hack, and the ever changing, ever being placed on hold or restarted "Pokemon Sterling Silver" (which I guess is my pokemon equivalent of Duke Nukem Forever, in a way). It's a way for me to try out new ideas, or see if I can copy newer elements in an older game. Sometimes the ideas come from reading about a feature on Bulbapedia that I never actually experienced first hand, getting my own idea of how it should work, and adding it. For example, in one of the old releases of Sterling Silver, the Pokemon Communication Center has a room that emulates the Union Room. There are random trainers inside, and some will battle and some will trade, and some will chat or do other things. Others come from things I hear about in the games like Diamond/Pearl/Platinum, which I have never played, but hear my brothers talk about.

But long story short, it is a way to give life to my crazy Pokemon related ideas, that are always kicking around in my mind, and have been since 1998.
