Pokemon Emblem

Hack Name: Pokemon Emblem

Hack of: Fire Emblem (GBA)

Info: This isn't a hack of a Pokemon game I know, but the idea is to use the Fire Emblem gameplay with Pokemon. Everything in the game would be based around Pokemon, only the gameplay would really remain the same.

This is just an idea I thought of and was wondering if anyone else would be interested in a hack like this before I start making it. So please let me know if you would play this hack or not. Also, if you have any ideas that I could put into this if I were to make it, please let me know.

Re: Pokemon Emblem

YES! This is something I've always wondered about but never tried diving into because I wouldn't know where to begin and I've been too preoccupied with other things. You should definitely give this a try!

Re: Pokemon Emblem

I feel like it would be a huge project and require a lot of planning, but it would be an AWESOME hack. I would most definitely play this!

I don't really know what Fire Emblem is, so I don't think I'd play this hack.
It's just a personal thing. I haven't played Touhoumon despite the fact that it is a finished hack with full overhauls to make the Touhou-Pokemon mix work.

I can completely understand that, that's the same reason I haven't played the Touhoumon hack either. I've never heard of it before so I feel like I'd be completely lost. This is one of those late night ideas I had and thought it'd be interesting to do. It'd be more like a side project for me though because the hack I've already started on is my biggest project right now.

That is a good way to think about it. Even if I do a not so great job on it due to not understanding or some other reason, it might enable someone else to follow up and make a better version of it.

Thanks for your support and enthusiasm. I think I may look further into it and then decide if I think it's something I would like to/ am capable of doing.

Re: Pokemon Emblem

Just so everyone knows there is a game out that is sort of like this known as Pokemon Conquest. My main problems with it though is 1. It has almost nothing to do with Pokemon other than the fact there are Pokemon in it. (i.e. the setting is like Feudal Japan.) 2. It's all generations I believe. I like the newer generations a little, but everyone has to admit that generation 2 is where it's at. and 3. It just doesn't give me that same feeling I get when I play a Pokemon game.  If I were to make this hack, it'd fix all these problems and more

Re: Pokemon Emblem

Fire Emblem is a series of Strategy RPGs developed by Nintendo and Intelligent Studios that spans about 13 installments now (some of which have been remakes).  You know who Marth, Roy, and Ike from the Smash Bros. games are?  Then you already know a little about Fire Emblem; they're a few of the main characters. The series started on the NES in 1990, but it wasn't until 2003, with the seventh game, that the West started seeing these games.

In Fire Emblem games, you are given some characters to start out, each with their own class and stat patterns, often with some backstory to them (much moreso in the later installments), and as you progress, more join your army.  You can only deploy a set amount each chapter while the rest of your army sits out, so pick characters you like or ones that will help, whatever floats your boat.  The game plays out in a turn-based style on grid-based maps, generally filled with enemy units that can be defeated to give your characters experience to grow stronger.  The true objective of these maps is usually to defeat an enemy leader, seize a gate or throne, survive a set number of turns, etc., but there are also things like villages and chests that give you money and items (enemies who get to these end up taking them).  Like any strategy RPG, there are a lot of factors to be aware of; for example, the Weapon Triangle (where Swords beat Axes, Axes beat Lances, and Lances beat Swords, which) can be used to your benefit just as much as it can be used against you by the enemies, as well as simply being aware of attack ranges, unit types, and so forth.

What sets Fire Emblem games apart from most strategy RPGs?  The most obvious one is permanant deaths.  Imagine if that "Nuzlocke" thing you heard about was a default feature in your games.  This is where the game really stresses strategy; you don't want your characters dying off (especially if you put a lot of experience into them), so you need to play cautiously so that they don't end up getting swarmed by units they won't survive against or something like that.  The other thing would also be the straightforward, on-rails progression (there are sometimes alternate paths).  In almost all of the games, once you clear a stage, there is no going back to it.  In essence, this means there's a limited amount of experience to be gained in each chapter and missable items.

Overall, it's a series I enjoy a lot, I STILL play the FE7 here and there (the first one that came out in the West).  I'd say look it up sometime, check out playthrough videos, and see if it might be your thing.

The question remains, which Fire Emblem would you be basing this off of?  Or would this actually be a completely seperate fanmade game, not just a ROMhack?

Finally, I see Touhoumon got mentioned a bunch apparently.  I'm well aware my hack isn't for everyone, I had a niche audience in mind when I started working on it, and that's not going to change.  As a matter of fact, part of the reason I made the hack was because I saw it as a new challenge that nobody (the Touhou fans anyways) wanted to undertake, then it grew into a few more things, including a bet one of my rival hackers (no, not anyone here) made XD.  Overall, it pretty much came down to "doing it for fun".

It'd most likely be off of FE7, but it would essentially change every little detail except the basic gameplay. I agree that Fire Emblem is a great game, and as such, I see no need to hack it to improve on it.

This hack would likely be for a certain group of people as well, as I'm not sure how many people would enjoy playing Pokemon in Fire Emblem's style of gameplay, as well as those who are unfamiliar with it. Really I've made the decision to go through with it, partially for the challenge, but mostly because it will be fun.

By the way I have looked at your hack quite a bit, just not played it, but from what I've seen and read, it seems quite thorough and very well done, the only reason I haven't played is because I would be totally lost, and I am busy working on other things of my own and don't have time to "relearn" Pokemon. I may play in the future, just to see how it is gameplay wise but, for right now, I'm much too busy. :/ Honestly though, seeing your hack has encouraged me to go through with this hack just for the fact that it's something that (at least to my knowledge) has not been done before, and even if I am to do a crappy job at it, maybe I can set the path for someone better than me to take over. This has become something I'm doing more for fun and the challenge than anything else now. (Of course support from others never hurts.)

If it will turn out good, there will be people who like it even though they haven't really played Fire Emblem before.
Anyway, if you really like to do that kind of hack, go for it! I wouldn't enjoy making a regular pokemon hack either so Dark Future greatly differs from the rest. As long as you've got an epic storyline which you want to show to others, your hack will eventually be finished (and successful).

Re: Pokemon Emblem

I'm going to make Pokemon Emblem my main project now, mostly because of the fact it is something new.  My other hack that was still in its infant stage will not be put aside, but will be sort of what I work on when I get stuck on Pokemon Emblem. Thank you to everyone that supported this idea, and especially thanks to those who encouraged me to try this hack solely for the challenge. I'll let you know when I have anything solid as far as progress goes.
