Type Alternation

Is there a way to make it so that you can make more than one set of types for a Pokémon - for example, Fire/Steel, Grass/Bug OR Water/Ice - and make it so that every turn of the battle, the Pokémon randomly uses one of them, and has a chance of any for the next turn? My main concern is how it would appear in the Pokédex if you can, because even if you can do this, nobody would want to finally catch it and then crash their game because of the automatic display of the Pokédex entry and having more than two types show up. If it is possible, how might one attempt it and prevent the dex from breaking? Thank you for your help.

I haven't been on this site for a very long time. Sorry about that! >.<
I am probably not going to get very far in the ROM projects that I've started, at least until I get more experience hacking, so I apologize.

Re: Type Alternation

So you're trying to create a pokemon like "Kecleon" (if that's what it's called), right ?
It's possible and doesn't even sound that difficult to be done.
What you've gotta do is to alter the assembly code for loading "FIGHT, PKMN, BAG, RUN" box so that it calls for a check whether a certain pokemon is on the battle field and make a random type change for it.

ASM is required though.

Re: Type Alternation

Thanks! I'll try to learn how to do that, but what you are doing will make it possible to make it so it's one set from a group rather than entirely random, right? It sounds that way, but I'm just checking.

Re: Type Alternation

And again: ASM. If you're just like me, knowing a fraction of ASM which would lead to nothing but bugs then you have to look for alternative methodes. If I know me I would make something like a "second fake type" or what you want to call it. For example, you want that ability on an supercool uber Blastoise which is water-type. I would add another type according to KBM's tutorial and call that type also 'Water' but making all non-effective and neutral types of the original water type immune to it. I don't know if it would work well ingame it's just an idea.

Re: Type Alternation

Doesn't even require ASM - just create a new type to which each move deals 00 damage (same as electric to ground effect) and only some types work.
